Severed Fifth Recording Begins

by | Sat 21 Jun 2008

Well, tomorrow I begin recording the debut [Severed Fifth](https://www.severedfifth.com/) album; *Denied By Reign*. This is an album that has been in the works for a long time, and primary recording begins tomorrow and finishes on Wednesday. This will involve eight songs and all of the tracking and production for all of the instruments – safe to say…its gonna be a long session!

What this will result in is the first chunk of content that can be used to push Severed Fifth forward as a campaign and as an experiement in elements of free culture. It will be this content that will be used to try and push the concept of free culture, and to explore the many questions I have about how to be successful as a free culture musician. I hope that irrespective of whether each person reading this likes the music, the message behind *Denied By Reign* and the wider Severed Fifth project will answer some of the questions we are faced with when discussing and advocating a free culture music industry. It is an exciting time, and I can’t wait to see just what is possible with this debut release.

## Keeping up to date

To keep everyone up to date with the progress of the recording, I will be doing the following:

* Posting regular blog updates of the session on the [Severed Fifth Blog](https://www.severedfifth.com/blog/).
* Summarising chunks of the recording process in the [Severed Fifth News](https://www.severedfifth.com/news/).
* Providing finer-grained updates throughout the days on my [Twitter Feed](https://twitter.com/jonobacon).
* Checking in on the [Severed Fifth Forums](https://www.severedfifth.com/forums/) regularly.

So, check in and see what is going on. Here we go… 🙂

I am 35 years old and *people* never cease to surprise me. My trip home from Los Angeles today was a good example of this. It was a tortuous affair that should have been a quick hop from LA to Oakland, popping on BArt, and then getting home for a cup of tea and an...

Ubuntu Governance: Reboot?

For many years Ubuntu has had a comprehensive governance structure. At the top of the tree are the Community Council (community policy) and the Technical Board (technical policy). Below those boards are sub-councils such as the IRC, Forum, and LoCo councils, and...
