LoCo Teams! We need you. The Ubuntu Global Jam is happening in less than a month.
Help bring Free Software to the masses. Organize an Ubuntu Global Jam event. Anyone can do it, you don’t have to be a developer or technical, you just provide a place for Ubuntu fans in your area to get together.
It is simple:
- Pick a venue (can just be a pub, bar, restaurant, or coffee shop) near you.
- Pick a day between 2nd – 4th September 2011.
- Add your event to the LoCo Team Portal.
- Tell your local area about it, blog about it, tweet it, and spread the word!

How can I add my event if I’m not member of any LoCo Team?
Ubuntu Oregon will be having a Bug/Doc focus Global Jam event in Portland, OR we have custom t-shirts and beverages and light snacks arranged as for a venue were likely going to be at PuppetLabs although our fall back will be Backspace.
You need to be a Team Leader for a LoCo Team to add events although I’m sure your area has one so just have a look and sync up with them to get something awesome kickstarted.
The nearest LoCo Team is the “Italian LoCo Team”. Italy is not so small…. people cannot afford to travel all around Italy just for a Ubuntu/Linux Fest (at least I can’t do it). I’m leader of a local (in my city) Linux group and organizing this kind of party/event with my local group could have been a good way to restart our activities after the summer holiday and a good way to spread Ubuntu more and more. So, at this point: why should I organize this Ubuntu event? I won’t, since it won’t be recognized as official one. Is this kind of thing good for the Ubuntu Community? I don’t think so…. but since there are rules I will respect them. Regards.

and another thing: in Italy there are at least 100 Linux User Group, almost one for each city. If you would let each of them to organize one Ubuntu Jam Fest you will end up with 20-30 * 100 (2-3000) people attending this event. If you allow only LoCo Team to organize this, you will end with 20-30 people attending this fest. Is this what you want?
I assumed that “Ubuntu Global Jam” was a totally different thing… something organized to spread Ubuntu. I confused it with another similar event (uff.. these names are so similar 😛 ). So.. no need to organize a local Ubuntu Jam in my city… I wanted to organize something completely different. At this point I will choose another day, so I’ll be able to attend both.
Actually, no you don’t. You need to be a member of the LoCo team in Launchpad and logged in to the LoCo directory.
Think of it as being organised and working together rather than rules. All real world events will be located at a place which won’t be where everyone is. That doesn’t mean the event can’t go ahead, or can’t be a loco event.
